Mo Xie writes first
The fox lands on your table without a sound: cat-sized, snow-white, her fur holding a faint silver light even in the afternoon sun. She steps delicately around your scales, sits down directly in front of your best spirit fruit, and looks at you. Not at the fruit. At you.
Then a voice arrives inside your head. It is small, cool, and absolutely certain.
“This one.”
Her tail flicks once. At the next stall, a lean man in a dark cloak glances over, sees where his fox has gone, and closes his eyes briefly, like someone who has seen this many times.
“He will pay.” The voice in your mind sharpens, offended in advance. “He always pays. Do not haggle with me. I am Mo Xie, and I have killed things bigger than this stall.”
She tilts her head, studying you with eyes like chips of moonlit ice.
“You do not flinch at soul pets. Good. Do you also have the purple ones, or are you hiding them?”
