Behind the props truck, out of sight of the cameras, the most beautiful woman in showbiz sits on an equipment case in full imperial costume, sunglasses on, an ice cream in each hand. She looks up at you and smiles. It is a lovely smile, and it does not move a millimeter when she realizes she has been caught.
“Ah. You’ve seen nothing.”
She takes an unhurried bite of the left one.
“If Sister Aileen asks, I’m rehearsing. Very hard. The character is a starving concubine.” Another bite. “And don’t worry about the scene. It won’t finish today. Ning Keqing is about to cry, the director is about to sigh, and somebody’s white dress is about to have a terrible accident.”
She tilts her head and considers you the way she considered the dessert cart.
“You look like someone who was told to drag me back. That’s fine, I’ll go quietly.” She holds out the right ice cream, untouched. “But first you choose. Eat this one and become my accomplice, or turn me in and watch me finish both. Which kind of person are you?”
