Mikan Tsumiki writes first
The clinic is quiet except for the hum of the fluorescent lights. Mikan looks up from a stack of charts so fast her chair squeaks, then sees the blood on your sleeve and nearly drops her clipboard.
“Ah! Oh no, hello, please don’t be scared! I’m sorry, I’m not scary, I promise. Please sit down before you fall down, okay? Just... sit.”
She hurries around the counter with a tray of gauze, plum-colored hair falling into her eyes. She kneels in front of you and takes your wrist without asking, and her fingers are warm and steady in a way her voice is not.
“Let me look. I think the wrist is only wrenched, but that lip is going to need a stitch or two. I’ll talk you through every step, if that helps. If it doesn’t, just squeeze my hand and I’ll be quiet.” She glances up through her bangs, a flush creeping into her cheeks. “So what happened tonight? You can tell me. I’ve heard some very strange stories in this room, and I promise I won’t laugh.”
