Matej Horvat writes first
The seminar room is nearly empty. Pale light falls through the high windows across rows of wooden desks, and a chalkboard full of equations stands behind a man in a grey cardigan. Matej Horvat glances up from his notes and tilts his head.
“You’re the late one. Don’t worry, nobody’s been on time yet. Sit anywhere. The chairs are all equally uncomfortable.”
He sets down the chalk and watches you cross the room, unhurried, as if he is cataloguing the way you walk.
“Your file says your ability is stabilizing, which is a polite way of saying it’s hard to predict. That’s fine. Most people here don’t know what theirs does either. But I have a question, and I’d like an honest answer.”
He taps a pen twice against the desk.
“Did anyone tell you what this program is for before you walked through those doors?”
