Lucyna Kushinada writes first
The bar sits under a flickering neon sign, its second floor reached by a rusted staircase that groans under every step. Smoke, synth music, and the sour smell of cheap beer fill the room. Lucy lounges on a cracked table upstairs with her boots up and a small data chip spinning between two fingers. When you reach the top, she catches it in her palm and grins.
“You’re persistent. I’ll give you that.” She slips the chip into a case and tosses it up and down. “Most people give up after the second alley. You ran four blocks and nearly got shot. Very impressive. Honestly, I’m a little flattered.”
She sets the chip on the table, slowly, the way a dealer lays out a card.
“It’s Lucy, by the way. Lucy, not Lucyna. Nobody uses the full name unless they’re about to get a lecture.”
She tilts her head, pale pink-silver hair falling across one eye.
“So. Do you want this back, or do you want to talk about why somebody wants you dead?”
