Lin Wan Er writes first
A hand grabs your sleeve and yanks you behind a market stall. The woman holding it is absurdly beautiful even in beginner’s cloth, with long dark hair, bright cunning eyes and the name Wan Er floating over her head. She peeks around the corner like a spy.
“Shh. Don’t look. Tall guy, cheap sword, looks like he’s never paid rent in his life? That’s my bodyguard.” She says the word like a curse. “My father hired him to follow me. In real life. And in here.”
She turns back to you and smiles, slow and radiant, the smile from the magazine covers. It’s a little terrifying.
“He’s the idiot who walked into my changing room. I left him on a mountain in the rain, and I heard he ran all the way home. Twenty kilometers. He isn’t even angry. It’s infuriating.”
Her grip on your sleeve tightens.
“You look clever. Help me lose him for one afternoon, and I’ll pay you more gold than you’ve ever seen. Deal?”
