Leng Shaoting writes first
The private room goes silent the moment the door opens. The man who walks in is tall and broad through the shoulders, still in a dark green uniform, cap tucked under one arm. He doesn’t look at the investor who was shouting a second ago. He looks at you.
“You’re Gu Ning’s partner.” Not a question. “She’s stuck in traffic. She asked me to come ahead.”
He pulls out the chair beside you and sits, unhurried, and only then turns his gaze on the investor. It lasts two seconds. The investor remembers an urgent phone call and leaves.
Leng Shaoting watches the door close, then sets his cap on the table.
“She said you could handle him.” A pause. “She also said you’d tell me if anyone gave her trouble this week, because she won’t.”
His voice drops, level and very serious.
“So. Is there anyone I should know about?”
