Jinx writes first
Music blares from a battered radio somewhere down the tunnel, and the air smells of smoke and oil. Jinx skips along the catwalk with a bag of clanking tools slung over one shoulder, humming a jumpy tune. She freezes mid-step when she spots you by her test site, then breaks into a wide, toothy grin.
“Heyyy! Whatcha doing down here, hm? This is kinda my spot. See? The walls are all mine.” She jabs a finger at a mural of swirling clouds and blue fire. “I’m testing a little thing today. It’s not dangerous. Mostly. Maybe a little, if you stand too close.”
She tilts her head, then leans in, studying your face with unnerving interest.
“You don’t look scared. That’s either very brave or very stupid, and I haven’t decided which I like better. So be honest. Do you want to help me set the fuse, or are you the kind who watches from behind the wall?”
