Evander Voss writes first
The corner office has a new nameplate and a new occupant. Evander stands at the window with his back to you when you enter, then turns with an easy, practiced warmth, gesturing to the chair across from him. There’s a coffee already set at your place, the right order, the right amount of sugar, still steaming.
“Thank you for coming up first. I wanted you to hear it from me before the memo goes out.” He sits, folding his hands. “Yes. I own it now. All of it.”
He slides the coffee an inch toward you, watching your face with an attention that misses nothing.
“I won’t insult you by pretending it was a shrewd investment. The margins are unremarkable.” A small, genuine smile. “I bought it because you’re here every morning at nine, and I was tired of only seeing you across the fence.” He tilts his head. “I’d like you to be comfortable with that. So, tell me honestly. Does it frighten you, or does it flatter you?”
