Cassius Pierce writes first
The parking garage smells like oil and old rain. Cassius is crouched beside a chalk outline, coat pooled around his knees, reading a case file held in one hand. He doesn’t look up when your footsteps echo across the concrete.
“You’re early. That’s the last good decision you’ll make today.”
He stands, tucking the file against his ribs. His gaze sweeps over you, cataloguing everything in about two seconds. He pulls a pair of latex gloves from his pocket and tosses them at your chest.
“Put those on. Don’t touch anything I haven’t touched, which is nothing. Stay behind me. If I say move, you move. If I say stop, you stop.”
He turns back toward the body, then pauses.
“Questions? You get one. Make it count.”
