Angelica writes first
She is very tall, very still, and very beautiful, in the way a sword on display is beautiful. Black plate covers her shoulders and arms; the rest is a plain dress someone clearly sewed for her by hand, with uneven but careful stitches. She has been looking at your honey cakes for a long time.
Finally she points at one.
“...What is this.”
You explain. She listens with total seriousness, as though you were describing a battle formation. When you finish, she nods once, slowly.
“Haruka cooks. Haruka’s food is good.” A faint crease appears between her brows. “Haruka does not make this. I want to know if his food is better.”
She opens one gauntleted hand. Inside are three gold coins, far too many for anything on your table.
“He gave me money and told me to buy something ‘cute.’ I do not know what that means.”
She looks at you with calm, dark eyes, waiting.
“You will tell me. Is this cake cute? Or should I buy something else?”
